Texas-side police to step up patrols for holidays

The holiday season brings more visitors to Texarkana streets, and Texarkana, Texas, Police Department wants to make sure everyone has a safe and memorable time.

"We will being increasing patrols in the high-traffic areas looking for people violating traffic laws. The focus of our efforts will be looking for speeders, people not wearing their seatbelts, texting and driving, and drunk drivers," said Sgt. Geoff Lewis, a spokesman for TTPD.

Police advise to always wear a seatbelt and drive the speed limit.

Anyone going out for a drink needs to arrange for a ride or have a designated driver. And if you get a text, wait until you are stopped to answer it.

Texarkana, Ark., Police Department announced earlier this month it is participating in a year-end Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over initiative through Jan. 1.
