It looks like it may not be a white Christmas after all

Forecast indicates dipping temperatures but no snow

After a day of heavy rain Friday, the forecast is showing the Texarkana area will remain dry through Christmas weekend.

Temperatures will drop below freezing Christmas Eve night, but no precipitation is expected.

"The cold front has moved in. The weekend will be dry but pretty chilly," C.S. Ross, a hydrologist with the National Weather Service in Shreveport, La., said Friday.

Showers and thunderstorms were widespread across the area Friday with several inches of rain accumulated in some places.

Rainfall totals of 2 to 4 inches were possible in most areas with isolated higher amounts in excess of 5 inches.

The sun should be out today with a high temperature near 50 and winds out of the northwest at 5 to 15 mph.

Tonight's low should be around 37 with west winds becoming calm at 5 mph.

Christmas Eve should be sunny during the day with a high near 50 and a low of 27 at night.

Christmas Day is expected to be sunny with a high near 46 and a low of 32.

A chance of rain is back in the forecast by Tuesday.

The forecast for New Year's weekend so far is sunny and cool, with highs in the 40s and lows in the 20s.

"But it's a little far out to say for sure," Ross said.
