Former Miller County Sheriff Ron Stovall is hoping to come out of retirement and once again serve the citizens of Miller County as sheriff.

"Ten years ago, I asked my fellow Miller County residents to support my efforts to become your sheriff. You honored me by allowing me to serve you in this capacity for eight years. For this honor and privilege, I thank you," Stovall said. "In 2018 I am asking that you allow me to once again lead the Miller County Sheriff's Office as your sheriff as our community, state and country face some of the toughest challenges we have ever experienced."

During his tenure as Miller County sheriff, Stovall brought the county's jail, which had become largely run by inmates and was in danger of being shut down by the state, into compliance with state standards and oversaw many security improvements.

"My administration focused on issues directly impacting the safety and fiscal well being of our community. We addressed staff turnover, brought stability to professional county law enforcement and saved tax dollars on training, recruitment and retention," Stovall said. "Patrol zones were developed to reduce response time. Cameras were installed in patrol vehicles to ensure integrity in service and support transparency."

Stovall said that in the two years since he left office, he has come to believe he still has much to offer as a public servant.

"My concern for my community, many friends, neighbors and relatives have now taken me in a direction to continue public service. I want to use my 35 years of experience with the Arkansas State Police in field operations and administration along with my years of past service as your sheriff to ensure a safer community for all," Stovall said.

Stovall, whose 46 years of experience in law enforcement was prefaced by service in the Marine Corps, said he believes his continued service to Miller County will save tax dollars and increase community safety.

"During the past couple of years I have watched as the communities here and around our great country have been victimized by criminals wishing to impede on our precious freedoms and prey on our family, friends and citizens," Stovall said. "I would be honored to have your support and vote in the upcoming election for this very important position."
