Library offers access to a wide range of databases

Online databases provided by Texarkana Public Library offer a wealth of knowledge on a wide range of topics, but those who have never visited the library's website may not know they are available.

The library offers a free eCard that provides access to the databases and other digital materials from any internet-connected computer. Information available includes job training, genealogy, investment research and much more. Here's a quick look at what's available.

  •     LearningExpress Library has text and video tutorials on basic skills such as math and reading; preparing for occupational entrance exams; common elementary, middle and high school subjects; preparing for college; computer skills; finding a career match; and searching for a job.
  •     Arkansas State Library databases cover an extensive range of topics, with access to thousands of electronic texts. Subjects include the arts; business; education and library science; career and vocational; genealogy; general research; health and medicine; history; international resources; K-12 student resources; literature; news and newspapers; science and technology; and social sciences.
  •     Value Line is an investment research database that publishes financial data; tools for understanding analyses and projections; stock ranks and ratings; and expert guidance.
  •     ConsumerReports.org tests and rates consumer products on an independent, nonprofit basis.
  •     Pronunciator teaches any of 80 languages with self-directed lessons, live teachers, movies, music and more.
  •     Procitizen helps people prepare to become United States citizens.
  •     Tutor.com is a fully online service that offers tutors 24/7 in more than 40 subjects including math, science, social studies, English, foreign languages and business.
  •     TexShare Databases is a project of the Texas State Library and Archives Commission that comprises thousands of resources on topics including academic research, elementary and high school subjects, texts for homeschoolers, health and wellness, natural and alternative treatments, company and market research, small business, home improvement, small-engine repair, legal information and job and career advice.
  •     HeritageQuest is a collection of American genealogical sources including primary sources, local and family histories, convenient research guides, interactive census maps and more.
  •     Texarkana Digital History includes a history of Texarkana and Bowie and Miller counties, Texarkana pioneer family histories and historical images of the city.
