Authorities identify man killed in wreck on Interstate 30

NEW BOSTON, Texas-The victim in Monday's fatal vehicle accident on Interstate 30 has been identified as Mike Steward, 69, of Havana, Ark.

Steward was pronounced dead at the scene, according to a report from the Texas Department of Public Safety.

The accident happened at 12:34 p.m., near mile marker 184 about 12 miles from Simms, Texas.

The 2016 Chevrolet Silverado, driven by Steward, was traveling east on I-30 in the outside lane. A 2015 Peterbilt truck-tractor tanker, operated by James Lewis Hart, 70, of Kaufman, Texas, was also traveling east on I-30 in the outside lane. The tanker was struck in the rear by the Chevrolet pickup according to the report.

Hart was not injured.

Traffic was rerouted off I-30 for close to two hours Monday while investigators determined if fluids leaking from the vehicles were hazardous. No hazardous materials were found.
