Ashdown Cemetery Association will meet to discuss operational decisions at annual meeting

Operational decisions of the Ashdown Cemetery Association will be discussed during the annual association meeting at noon Feb. 21 in the Ashdown, Ark., First United Methodist Church in the fellowship hall.

Leadership positions will be determined by vote and include president. vice president, treasurer, and secretary.

"The leadership of the association are all volunteers, the association is nonprofit and it receives absolutely no funding from the city, county or state, no tax money whatsoever," said Carroll McLarty, acting president and spokesman.

"If it were not for the elected officers providing leadership, donations coming in from those having loved ones buried here and the investments we have made, the cemetery would be left on its own and nature to become an embarrassment to the community," McLarty said.

"Our long-term goal is to create a perpetual fund that would generate enough investment income to pay the expenses long after all of us are gone. We are getting closer to reaching that goal even while improving and making the property more attractive," he said.

"All of the current officers' terms are expiring and will be filled by vote. A slate of candidates will be presented, but nominations will be accepted from the floor. If you have interest in serving a one-year term, just let me know which office you are interested in and you will be included on the slate to be voted on," McLarty said.

The contact information is telephone 898-6179 or email [email protected]. The mailing address is P.O. 1135, Ashdown, AR 71822.

"There will be time set aside for open discussion; the current officers want to hear your comments, questions and suggestions," he said.
