Police Association breaks ties with fundraising company

Texarkana, Ark., Police Association has broken ties with a company hired to raise funds after the company violated the terms of the contract and complaints were made to local police, a Texas-side police spokesman said in a press release.

"We have received complaints regarding companies or individuals soliciting money for the Texarkana, Texas, and Texarkana, Ark., police departments. Upon investigation of this complaint, we learned the Texarkana, Ark., Police Association had contracted with an independent company to raise funds," said Sgt. Geoff Lewis of Texarkana,
Texas, Police Department.

But the company violated the terms of the contract, and the police association is "no longer affiliated with the company,"
he said.

Neither police department is soliciting funds.

Both departments "want to advise citizens that any phone call regarding solicitation of money is fraudulent and should be ignored. We also want to remind citizens you shouldn't provide personal information over the phone to untrusted companies or individuals," Lewis said.
