HealthCARE Express recently finalized the purchase of Minton's Sportsplex, a comprehensive fitness center in Texarkana, Texas.
Ownership of The Sportsplex, as it will now be known, transferred to HealthCare Express as of Tuesday.
"The main reason this was a good move for us is we care about our patients, not just when they're sick," said Angela Evans, HealthCARE Express director of community education. "We care about their well-being It just seemed to be the perfect mix to add onto what we're already doing."
The Sportsplex includes a 40,000-square-foot fitness and sports center, which includes a 25-yard lap pool, themed water park recreational pool, beach volleyball courts and basketball courts. The fitness center is 31,000 square feet and is equipped with top-of-the-line gear. The 15,000-square-foot family recreation center includes basketball and volleyball courts, play structures, an arcade, youth fitness area and a concession area.
Patrons of the The Sportsplex will continue to see the same services to which they've grown accustomed.
"We're going to keep everything pretty much the same," Evans said. "There may be some added classes and stuff of that sort, but the staff is going to stay the same and the gym is going to stay the same."
Two changes soon to occur at the center will be reopening the day care and the cafe, which were closed in the recent past.
"It will be soon when the day care reopens, but I don't have a date yet. With that, we are definitely looking for people who work in the child care industry from a director to teachers," Evans said. "The cafe is going to open back up pretty soon. It had closed down as well. We're going to start off with smoothies, so that should be coming in the next few weeks."
HealthCARE Express has grown in the past several years, opening new urgent care locations in Northeast Texas, Arkansas and Choctaw, Okla., and the Escape to Bliss Spa in Texarkana, Texas.
Purchasing the fitness center moves the company in a new direction.
"We're super excited about this. We really are. Our tag line is putting the care back in health care. We believe the journey of a healthy lifestyle begins with a healthy body," Evans said.
