A balloon release in memory of a diabetic 20-year-old who died after allegedly being denied insulin by a jail nurse is scheduled for 2 p.m. Sunday in front of the Bi-State Justice Building in downtown Texarkana.

Morgan Angerbauer's mother, Jennifer Houser, said she organized the balloon release because she doesn't want anyone to forget her daughter or the plight of inmates who need medical attention. Angerbauer died of diabetic ketoacidosis in the early morning hours of July 1.

Brittany Johnson, a licensed vocational nurse who refused to check Angerbauer's sugar the night before her death, has been charged with misdemeanor negligent homicide by prosecutors in Miller County, Ark., in connection with the death. Angerbauer was arrested June 28 on a warrant stemming from administrative violations of probation for a nonviolent offense.

A medical examiner's report documents Angerbauer's blood sugar level at 813 at the time of death. Blood sugar levels are considered within normal range between 70 and 110.

The public is invited to attend Sunday's balloon release in Angerbauer's honor.
