A seminar to help churches navigate the legal landmines in a secular society will be held from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at Fellowship Bible Church, 1601 Moores Lane, Texarkana, Texas.

The workshop will center on how church leaders can take key steps to protect their people and ministries. It is open to the public but tailored especially for church leadership teams such as pastors, elders and deacons.

It is designed to educate and arm church leadership teams with tools to protect ministries and guard religious liberty.

Jeremy Dys, senior counsel for First Liberty Institute, will be the guest speaker.

Dys focuses on religious liberty matters and the First Amendment. He earned his Juris Doctor from West Virginia University College of Law in 2005.

For six years prior to joining Liberty Institute, Dys led a public policy organization that advocated for life, marriage and religious freedom.

First Liberty Institute is the largest legal organization in the nation dedicated exclusively to protecting religious freedom in America. Founded in 1997, its attorneys have defended people of all faiths. Funded by individual donations and grants, First Liberty is a nonprofit law firm that represents all clients free of charge.

Some religious liberty victories in which First Liberty has played a key role include the exoneration of Navy Chaplain Wes Modder after he had been relieved of his duties for counseling according to his religious beliefs, the affirmation of the First Amendment right of school children in the "Candy Cane" case, the landmark Supreme Court decision protecting the Mojave Desert Cross veterans memorial and the release of American missionary Jim Allen from a Haitian jail.
