Event to promote healthy living, eating, producing

Several state and local organizations will sponsor a Growing Healthy Communities Summit on Jan. 31 in Hope, Ark.

The event will take place in Hempstead Hall on the University of Arkansas campus at 2500 S. Main St.

"This summit offers sessions for those interested in community and school gardens, for farmers and others who wish to sell at farmer's markets, for employers who wish to improve employee health, and for those interested in making their community better for walking, biking and other physical activity," spokeswoman Debra Bolding said.

The summit will include free lunch and refreshments and will close with a local foods tasting and seed swap event.

Also, during the event, the Arkansas Agriculture Department will be conducting its Local Conversations to bring together local farmers, chefs, grocers and market managers.
