Local business donates $2K to TC for scholarships in Construction Technology

Two Texarkana College students studying Construction Technology recently received $1,000 scholarships from Red River Lumber. Recipients Justin Sheets and Cory Pitts will also have the opportunity for internships with the company. Two Texarkana College students studying Construction Technology recently received $1,000 scholarships from Red River Lumber. Red River Lumber donated $2,000 to Texarkana College for Construction Technology scholarships during a ceremony held Wednesday at the college.

TC students Justin Sheets and Cory Pitts each received $1,000 from the donation to be used over two semesters in the TC Construction Technology Department and will be eligible to apply for internships with Red River Lumber.

"We are proud to award scholarships to these deserving students who I know will have promising careers in the construction field," Red River owner Mike Craven said in a press release. He is also president of the Texarkana College Foundation.

"We are so grateful to Mike Craven and Red River Lumber for making an investment in the future of this community," said Katie Andrus, director of the Texarkana College Foundation. "An educated workforce is so important, and this scholarship will award students who are working hard to make a better life for their families.
