Area under tornado warning until 5:45 p.m.

Areas around Texarkana are under tornado warning until 5:45 p.m., according to a statement from the National Weather Service in Shreveport, La. Tornado sirens reportedly have sounded in Atlanta and Queen City, Texas.

The warning applies to southern Miller County in Arkansas; Caddo and Bossier Parishes in Louisiana; and Cass, Marion and Harrison counties in Texas.

"At 4:44 p.m., a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was located near Karnack, Texas, or 18 miles northeast of Marshall, moving northeast at 35 mph," according to the statement.

The storm could also produce quarter-size hail. Those outside or in mobile homes should seek shelter, and damage to roffs, windows and vehicles will occur, it states. Tree damage is also likely.

This dangerous storm will be near Smithland, Texas, around 4:50 p.m.; Oil City, La., about 4:55 p.m.; Vivian, La., and McLeod, Texas, around 5:10 p.m.; Hosston, La., and Rodessa, Texas, about 5:15 p.m.; and Ida, La., around 5:25 p.m. Caddo Lake will also be affected.

"Take cover now! Move to a basement or an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building. Avoid windows. If you are outdoors, in a Mobile home, or in a vehicle, move to the closest substantial shelter and protect yourself from flying debris," NWS said.
