The road will close at 8 p.m. Friday, said Marcus Sandifer, spokesman for Texas Department of Transportation Atlanta District.

Workers will be replacing cross culverts on McKnight Road (FM 1297) this weekend, which will require closing the roadway to through-traffic.

"We are widening the highway and also doing rehab on it. We are taking off old pavement and adding shoulders to it. There will also be some cross culverts placed underneath it," Sandifer said.

The roadway will be closed just east of Gin Road. Traffic will be allowed on either side of the roadwork, but will not be able to pass through. The official detour route will be on Richmond Road (FM 559) and Pleasant Grove Road (FM 2878), but local traffic may find alternate routes they find more convenient.

Scheduled work and road closures can change anytime due to weather conditions or unforeseen problems.

Anyone having any questions about the road closure or work can call the Texas Department of Transportation Texarkana area office at 903-838-8574 for more information.
