One dead, one injured after drive-by shooting

Four suspects arrested, officials say

A person is dead and second is recovering after a drive-by shooting early Sunday in Ashdown, Ark.

Two people were shot around 1 a.m. Sunday on Washington Street, Ashdown Police Chief Mark Ardwin said.

The victims, both of Ashdown, were taken by private vehicle to Little River Memorial Hospital, where one died of a gunshot wound to the chest. The other victim was treated for nonlife-threatening injuries.

Though the families have been notified, no names have been released.

De Queen, Ark., Police and Sevier County Sheriff deputies detained four suspects, who range in age from 17 to 22, in a red Dodge Charger.

The suspects were believed to be residents of Sevier County, but Ardwin said the car registration indicated the car was registered to a person in Howard County.

No weapons have been located. The suspects remain in the Sevier County jail, Ardwin said.

Little River County Sheriff deputies and Arkansas Game and Fish Commission wildlife officers assisted Ashdown police during crowd control at the hospital. Ardwin said the body is expected to be taken to the Arkansas Crime Lab in Little Rock for an autopsy.

The suspects remain in the Sevier County jail, Ardwin said.
