Simms family accused of filing false theft report

Three members of a Simms, Texas, family have been arrested for allegedly filing a false police report to Bowie County Sheriff's Office about the theft of a Polaris all-terrain vehicle.
Matthew Kyle Gates, 21, Randall Keith Gates, 49, and Tina Janette Gates, 48, were arrested on charges of filing a false police report according to a BCSO report.
According to the report, Randall Gates reported a 2015 Polaris Sportsman all-terrain vehicle (ATV) stolen on behalf of his son Matthew Gates who was out of town. Lieutenant George Huggins took an offense report from Randall Gates for this stolen ATV.
Shortly after this report was taken, Sheriff James Prince received anonymous information that the ATV reported stolen had been submerged in a pond not far from the Gates' home.
The landowner where the pond was located allowed investigators to search for the ATV and remove it from the water.
The three suspects were interviewed about the incident and arrest warrants were obtained according to the report. The suspects also allegedly called their insurance company and filed a claim for the ATV being stolen.
Matthew Gates was arrested on July 17. Randall Gates and Tina Gates were arrested on July 21. Bond was set at $3,000 each according to the report.
