SummerFest event set for Saturday evening in Maud

Maud Beautification Group will put on its first Maud SummerFest from 5 to 9 p.m. Saturday on Main Street in Maud, Texas.

Admission is free for the event and most of the activities, according to information from Kyle DeLaughter, the group's spokesman.

"Bring your chairs. Bring your kids. We want to have fun," DeLaughter said.

A homemade ice cream contest will be held, with free Blue Bell ice cream for a year as the grand prize. Attendees get free ice cream after judging, DeLaughter said. Email [email protected] to enter.

When gates open at 5 p.m., Maud Fire Department will sell burgers and barbecue, vendors from Bowie and Cass counties will be on hand with arts and crafts, and a 50/50 cash raffle benefiting the fire department will begin. A bounce house and free face painting will be available for children. Other activities include:

  • 5:30 p.m.-cake walk
  • 6 p.m.-ice cream contest
  • 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.-dunking booth
  • 8:15 p.m.-raffle drawing
  • 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.-live music from local band Firewater and a street dance
