Commissioners to take action on courthouse roof

NEW BOSTON, Texas-Bowie County commissioners will meet at 10 a.m. today during a special meeting to hire a roofing firm to replace the roof on the courthouse.

Last week, Bowie County Auditor William Tye told commissioners the county received six bids: Alert Roofing of New Braunfels, Texas; Curtis McKinley of Longview, Texas; John S. Goodwin of Center, Texas; Trumble Construction of Texarkana; Final Touch of Hot Springs, Ark.; and Wright Brothers of Texarkana.

Upon receiving the list of bidders, Bowie County Judge James Carlow appointed a committee to study the bids before reporting back to the commissioners. The committee included Tye, Bowie County Precinct 2 Commissioner Tom Whitten and Vicki Cox, the county's building maintenance officer.

The courthouse's 32-year-old roof, which is the original roof from when courthouse opened in 1985, is leaking water in several areas inside the building's front area.
