SRBA reduces salary of consultant

MOUNT PLEASANT, Texas-The Sulphur River Basin Authority voted to reduce the salary of their consultant, John Jarvis, to $4,000 per month during a called meeting Tuesday. The amendment changes the 2014 professional services agreement between Jarvis' company, Jon-Lark, Inc. and SRBA, which included a monthly salary of $12,083.33. The 2014 contract between Jon-Lark and SRBA ends Friday, with the amendment taking effect Saturday.

Jarvis began working with SRBA in 2011 with a monthly salary of $10,000. His contract ended February 2014, and was amended on a month-to-month basis until the current contract was put in place.

The Texas Sunset Commission identified Jarvis' contract as an issue during their investigation of SRBA, a report released in April. Sunset recommended SRBA hire an executive director instead of a consultant, in addition to recommending a full sweep of the board. These recommendations are included in House Bill 2180, filed by Rep. Dan Flynn, which will have a public hearing at 10:30 a.m. today in Austin. The broadcast can be viewed at house.state.tx.us/video-audio/committee-broadcasts/.
