Pregnancy center holding walk/run Saturday at park

First Choice Pregnancy Resource Center's Walk/Run for Life will take place Saturday at Spring Lake Park at Pavilion 2 near the airplane.

The run starts at 7:30 a.m., the childrens' fun run is at 8 a.m. and the walk starts at 9:30 a.m.

Pre-registration is $30 for the run or $35 the day of the event. People can register at firstchoiceprc.com. It's free to participate in the walk or childrens' fun run but donations are accepted.

The organization hopes to raise $40,000 with this event.

"We're a little over halfway there right now. Everything we raised is used for client services to serve the women of our community who are facing an unplanned pregnancy," said Kristie Wright, 1st Choice executive director. "It goes toward pregnancy tests, ultrasound and educational supplies."

"We're kind of the first stop for a lot of women who are pregnant or thing they might be who weren't planning a pregnancy and are unsure of what they're going to do," Wright said. "We provide them with peer counseling, confirm the pregnancy and determine what other resources they may be benefited by."

First Choice Pregnancy Center also has an earn-while-you-learn program for expecting parents.

"By participating in our classes they can earn baby bucks to use in our mommy store," Wright said.

The public is invited to attend the Walk/Run for Life.

"It's a real family-friendly event. It's a fun morning. We have bounce houses, face-painting and there will be pancakes. It's going to be beautiful weather. Just come out and enjoy the morning."
