The University of Arkansas at Hope-Texarkana recently received a $10,000 donation from Ronald McDonald Children's Charity of Texarkana to support the school's summer Kids' College programs.

The funds will be used to provide scholarships for children who cannot afford Kids' College tuition and to provide supplies for teachers.

"We are pleased to be able to help with the continued success of Kids' College through this support," said Celia Montgomery of McDonald's. "It is great to have programs like Kids' College available in our community, and we certainly appreciate the opportunity to give back to a community that has been so supportive of our business."

Two summer programs will be offered this year. Kids' College, which will be held June 12 to 15 at UA-Hope for students in the first through fourth grades and June 19 to 22 for students in the fifth and sixth grades. Camp Save-A-Life, for students who have finished the sixth grade through age 14, will be held on both campuses: June 19 to 23 in Hope and July 31 to Aug. 4 in Texarkana.

Camp Save-A-Life is an educational summer camp where students become medical "professionals" for a week. The campers are issued scrub tops, clipboards and their very own picture IDs. A graduation ceremony will be held at the end of the camp, with each student receiving a diploma and stethoscope to keep. This is the first year for the program to be offered at the Texarkana campus. Registration is first-come, first-served, and each camp is limited to 20 students.

Kids' College is meant to introduce children to a college campus environment while they are young and influence them in a positive and creative way to experience the excitement of learning.

"We are excited about full enrollment for Kids College 2017 and are thrilled about bringing new instructors on board that have a combined experience of over a century of teaching. Also, we will be adding an unforgettable grand finale to the ending of each week," said Anna Powell, Kids' College director.
