Fireworks show could scare pets, city warns

A fireworks show Friday night at Spring Lake Park will be audible to nearby residents, the Texarkana, Texas, Parks and Recreation Department is warning.

Fireworks will follow the inaugural game of the Texarkana Twins baseball team at George Dobson Field in the park, 4303 N. Park Road. The game is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m.

Parks and Recreation recommends taking these steps to help pets frightened by the fireworks' noise:

  • Keep your pets secured inside your home.
  • Give them a safe place to hide.
  • Use ambient noise to mask the sounds of the fireworks.
  • Make sure their IDs and microchips are up to date.
  • Skip the celebration and stay home with them.
  • Keep them busy.

The Twins is a new team in the Texas Collegiate League, a summer league comprising six teams of unpaid, college-eligible players in Texas and Louisiana. The nearest other TCL team is the East Texas Pump Jacks of Tyler, Texas.
