Two arrested on vehicle burglary charges

Two people were arrested early Friday on charges of burglary of a vehicle after a person reported a suspicious vehicle on Cardinal Lane.

Eric Lamont Turner, 20, of Texarkana, Ark., and Katelin Marie Jordan, 19, of New Boston, Texas, were arrested for allegedly breaking into a vehicle. Turner was also arrested on a charge of possession of drug paraphernalia, said Bowie County Sheriff's Office Chief Deputy Jeff Neal.

The pair are being held in the Bi-State Justice Building jail. Their bonds have not been set. A third suspect has not been found, Neal said.

Bowie County Deputy Westin Fannin responded to a call of a suspicious vehicle on Cardinal Lane in Wake Village early Friday. The woman who called 911 about the car said that when she turned on her front porch light to see who was outside, the driver of the vehicle turned off the car's headlights.

Fannin found a matching vehicle parked a short distance away in the driveway of a home on Carrol Lane. As he approached it, he reportedly saw a man run from the garage area of this home and get in the rear seat of the car. Fannin also noticed there was a woman in the vehicle's driver seat, the sheriff's office said.

Fannin began talking to the suspects and saw there was something silver lying in the floor that the male suspect was attempting to conceal with his foot. Believing this item to be a firearm, Fannin told the man to move his foot, which revealed a handgun.

They reportedly told Fannin they were out in the area with a friend whose white German Shepard had jumped from the car and run off. Fannin asked the two for consent to search their vehicle, which they granted, Neal said.

Found during the search were a black purse, two masks, several bandanas, a BB gun, a drill, a tool bag, a radar detector, two vehicle television screens and a pipe commonly used for smoking methamphetamine.

The pair were then arrested. Jordan reportedly told investigators she had been driving Turner and another man around to different places where she would park their vehicle and the two would exit. They would return a short time later with stolen items, and she would drive them to the next spot to repeat these actions, Neal said.
