Police move headquarters to bank to deter robbers

Mineral Springs, Ark., police have moved to Diamond Bank to deter would-be bank robbers.

The move was completed Monday, with the Police Department now housed in the former insurance office inside the bank building, near downtown Mineral Springs.

The bank was robbed July 25, 2016, and four people were arrested and charged. The trials are pending.

The same bank was robbed in 2004. The culprits were arrested and sentenced to prison.

Bank officials wanted a better way to protect the bank, employees and customers, said Bob Jamison, the bank's market president for Nashville and Mineral Springs. This led to Jamison proposing to the City Council that the Police Department occupy space at the building.

The bank will pay for the Police Department's utilities, which could save the city $2,500. The remodeling was paid for by the bank.

Mayor Bobby Tullis said moving the Police Department to the bank building will not adversely affect police activities.

"We will see during the year how much we will save. We might be able to save 20 percent on just the phones and Internet," Tullis said.

"It was an intriguing idea, moving to the bank," Tullis said.
