Miller County officials review draft of budget

The Miller County Quorum Court Budget and Finance Committee continued reviewing the 2018 budget during a workshop Monday and are pleased with the process.

The committee is checking out the first draft of the budget.

"This is a good realistic budget," said District 9 Justice of the Peace John Haltom.

District 6 Justice of the Peace Ernest Pender, chairman of the Budget and Finance Committee, also praised the budget process.

"I'm happy tonight. I'm well pleased and feel good about it," Pender said after reviewing the county judge's budget, road department budget, building maintenance, and the county clerk's budget.

Pender encouraged the committee to study the budget.

The committee made recommendations for the road department and reduce the budget down to about $3.3 million.

The budget process included the review of the department budget. Then the committee would review, as an example, how much the county road department would actually spend and then suggest the budget to remain at the level.

The revenues available for appropriation includes:

General fund-$5,693 million

County road fund-$3.6 million

 Jail fund-$2,257 million

The budget committee will meet at 6 p.m. Nov. 16.
