New Boston man dies after being hit by vehicle while attempting to cross highway, investigation ongoing

A 46-year-old New Boston, Texas, man died Friday after sustaining injuries a day earlier by apparently running into the path of a vehicle while attempting to cross U.S. Highway 82, an official said.

Christopher Roger Simpson, 46, died with incapacitating injuries, according to Sgt. Sylvia Jennings, department spokeswoman.

About 2:15 p.m. Thursday, Texas Department of Public Safety troopers responded to a crash on U.S. 82 about 3.6 miles west of New Boston, Texas Jennings said.

A 2014 Chevrolet Suburban traveling west on U.S. 82 struck Rogers, who ran into its path as he was attempting to cross the highway, she said.

Rogers was airlifted to CHRISTUS St. Michael Health Center in Texarkana with incapacitating injuries. He was pronounced dead by Dr. Greg White on Friday.

The Suburban driver, Katelyn Grant Adams, 23, of Simms and passengers were not injured.
