Court affirms sentence of Cass County man who filmed girl in shower

The 6th District Court of Appeals in Texarkana has affirmed the conviction and two-year prison sentence assessed to a Cass County man who secretly filmed his girlfriend's daughter undressing in a bathroom.

Jared Wade Dee was found guilty of invasive video recording by a Cass County jury in April and sentenced to serve two years in a state jail. Dee argued on appeal that there wasn't enough evidence to convict him and that there was an error in the instructions given the jury by 5th District Judge Bill Miller before they began their deliberations.

The higher court ruled that there was no error in the jury instructions and that the evidence presented at trial was enough for the jury to convict. Dee's girlfriend, the victim's mother, became suspicious when Dee was "fiddling" with a video camera in her home and seemed nervous when she wanted to look through the images recorded on it.

The victim's mother found a recording of her daughter in the bathroom at the mother's Bloomburg, Texas, home in July 2015. In the video the victim could be seen undressing and entering and exiting the shower. The victim identified hands seen at the beginning of the video as the camera is being placed as belonging to Dee because of the tattoos on them.

At the end of the video, a man's face can be seen as the camera is moved. The victim again identified Dee as the man in the video.

Dee is currently being held in the Bradshaw Unit of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice. His projected release date is April 23, 2019.
