Law officers offer safety class for area churches

The Hempstead County Sheriff's Office will offer a free three-hour class, "Church Safety and Active Shooter," for all churches in Hempstead County, Ark.

"The class prepared by one of our investigators will not only cover active shooters, it will include natural disasters and other emergencies that can occur while at a place of worship. Our goal is to seek out every church and house of worship in the county and provide each of them this information," Hempstead County Sheriff James Singleton said.

"The first such class will be held on Tuesday Nov. 21, 2017 from 6:30-9:30 p.m. at the J Cowboy Church located on Highway 29 South (near Hope) about four miles from the University of Arkansas Hope-Texarkana. The class is limited to 30 people," he said.

"If you are interested in attending, please contact the Hempstead County Sheriff's Office at 870-777-6727 and leave your name and contact information or send us an e-mail to register. Sheriff's e-mail: [email protected] or [email protected]. Please leave your name, contact information and church's name, and I or one of my deputies will call and confirm your attendance," Singleton said.
