Plan for Atwoods hardware store in Nash on hold

A spokesman for Atwoods Ranch and Home, a farm and hardware supply and equipment retail chain based in Enid, Okla., said Thursday that plans to build an outlet in Nash, Texas, are on hold.

"The hurricane season we have just come through has disrupted the company's building plans and management is in the process of sorting it all out and rescheduling," said the spokesman, who did not give his name. "As soon as the new plans are in place and affirmed, we will put out a press release letting everyone know what is coming."

Gerald Haire Realty in Texarkana announced late September they had brokered a deal with Atwoods to open a store in Nash that was to be 71,ooo square feet and built on 10 acres of land. The site was to be part of a 47-acre commercial development between Kings Highway and North Pecan Street.

Atwoods Ranch and Home has 57 stores in Oklahoma, Arkansas, Texas and Kansas. The closest one to Texarkana is in Hope, Ark. Their merchandise includes clothing, tools and hardware for the lawn and garden. They also have sporting goods, pet supplies and seasonal categories.

Established in 1960, Atwoods has grown to over 2,000 employees over the past 54 years. If the new store is built, it will employ around 45 people.

Atwoods is family-owned. For more information, go to www.atwoods.com.
