Fire crews from Johnson, Springdale, Fayetteville and Tontitown fire departments battled the blaze. The homeowners reported seeing fire in the backyard, according to Todd Andrews, Johnson assistant fire chief. The fire moved into the home. After firefighters began fighting the fire, they were forced out when the strong wind caused the fire to spread rapidly. There were no injuries in the fire, but the home is a loss. Three homes surrounding the house had minor damage to the exterior, including scorched exterior brick walls, fences and lawns.

Police arrived on the scene in response to several 9-1-1 calls regarding shots being fired among a group of people. A preliminary investigation revealed that an altercation between a group of individuals ensued right where East 35th Street runs directly in front of the apartments, said Cpl. Kristi Bennett, Arkansas-side public information officer.

The investigation revealed that the altercation resulted in several gunshots being fired when some of the group attempted to leave the scene, Bennett added.

Officers learned through dispatch reports that two people had been taken to a local hospitals with nonlife-threatening gunshot wounds.

Officers also learned later that another local resident had also been struck but wasn't seriously injured.
