Main Street Texarkana sets holiday decorating contest in downtown area

With fall weather settling in and Halloween a few weeks away, Main Street Texarkana is planning a Christmas decorating contest in the downtown area ahead of the upcoming holiday season.

"This is something special we've got going, to help liven up our downtown this Christmas," said Ina McDowell, Main Street Texarkana executive director. "This will help liven up our coming Christmas parade. All downtown store and establishment fronts who want to participate need to have a Christmas display set up by Nov. 15. The winner gets $1,000."

This event is sponsored by Downtown Texarkana Neighborhood Association.

Main Street Texarkana is still tallying the numbers from Dine on the Line 2017. According to McDowell, it exceeded expectations.

"We were ready to handle 500 diners and we easily got that," she said. "And many more besides came downtown to see the merchants, see the sights and dance and have fun. We appreciate Texarkana coming out and supporting Main Street Texarkana's mission, especially an event like this which brings both sides of the city together.

"We did make money and we had a successful event and we look forward to doing this again next year," McDowell said.
