Greater Texarkana Branch of the NAACP to host Annual Freedom Fund Awards Banquet

The Greater Texarkana Branch of the NAACP will have its Annual Freedom Fund Awards Banquet Saturday, Oct. 28 at the Texarkana Convention Center, 4610 Cowhorn Creek Road, Texarkana, Texas.

The event will begin with a reception at 6 p.m. and a banquet at 7 p.m with the theme "Steadfast and Immovable."

The night's keynote speaker will be Rep. Marvin Abney of Rhode Island District 73.

Abney is a Texarkana native who graduated from Dunbar High School in 1968. He later received his bachelor's degree at Stephen F. Austin University and master's degrees from Webster University and the University of Rhode Island.

He is a retired major of the Army with 20 years of service.

  • Educational Award - Ms. Taryn Chambers Wells
  • Professional Award - Mrs. Barbara Larry
  • Community Support Award - Mr. Matt Graves
  • Trailblazer Award - Ms. Tina Richardson
  • Special Achievement - Mrs. Johnnie Wallace
  • Religious Affair Award - Dr. Cole
  • President's Award - Mrs. Willie Ray
