Man accused in stabbing over a woman

A Texarkana man has been arrested after allegedly stabbing another man Monday morning outside a local apartment complex.

Clarence Baker, 51, of Texarkana, Texas, was arrested about 11:15 a.m. Monday after police were sent to an apartment complex in the 3600 block of Elizabeth Street, said Shawn Vaughn, police spokesman.

Baker apparently believed that the 53-year-old alleged victim was romantically involved with his girlfriend and confronted him in the complex's parking lot, Vaughn said in a press release.

The two fought and Baker allegedly produced a knife from his pocket, according to police.

Baker allegedly cut the victim on his hand and then pursued him through the complex with the knife and a broom handle, according to police. At some point, he managed to catch up with the victim and allgedly stab him on the back of the arm. Baker fled into his apartment, where officers located and arrested him without incident.

The victim was taken to CHRISTUS St. Michael Health Center, where he was treated for nonlife-threatening injuries.

Baker is being held in the Bi-State jail where he awaits a bond hearing on a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
