Navy vet planning to challenge Ted Cruz for U.S. Senate seat

Dan McQueen, a Navy veteran, is planning to run against Texas Sen. Ted Cruz in the 2018 Republican primary.

McQueen earned his Master of Science degree in computer information systems and program management, so it should be no surprise that one of his campaign's biggest goals is the nation's security.

"In writing the United States Constitution, I don't think we looked into the future of cybersecurity threats," McQueen said.

He proposes heightened security protocols for government officials and greater emphasis on cybersecurity.

He also believes that there should be more focus on uniting the country.

"When America is united, there is nothing we can't do," he said as he visited Texarkana on Monday.

During his campaign, he will be raising money for his Texas Breaks Addiction program.

In every city he visits, he finds a local martial arts studio to break a board that represents the addiction problem in America.

"I am unifying all of the martial arts groups together so we can focus on the addiction problem and create a network pathway to help addicts back into society," McQueen said.

According to his website, "Dan McQueen is communicating the 100 Board Breaks across Texas to promote the cause and opportunity for increasing social solutions."

He is raising money for the program by hosting a slogan contest, where the winner for the best "Texas Breaks Addiction" slogan will receive a 1980 Custom Chevy Corvette. There is an entry fee of $100.

More information on his Senate campaign and Texas Breaks Addiction program can be found on his website, mcqueenforsenate.com.

The Texas primary election will be March 6, 2018.
