Locals will see a fresh pop of color on the Texas side after the unveiling of new Neighborhood Watch signs Monday on Summerhill Road.

Liberty-Eylau Independent School District Superintendent Ronnie Thompson, Pleasant Grove High School Principal Mendy Sharp, Texarkana ISD Superintendent Paul Norton and Texarkana, Texas, Police Chief Daniel Shiner all gathered to celebrate the unveiling of the new signs.

The L-EISD, PGISD and TISD communities are joining with law enforcement in a collective effort with law enforcement to drive away crime from local neighborhoods.

"Having these districts come together creates a real sense of community," Texarkana, Texas, Police Department spokesman Shawn Vaughn said.

There are 32 Neighborhood Watches on the Texas side. Their signs have been around for so long that they almost seem to blend in and become unnoticeable to potential criminals.

"The new and original signs are meant to tell possible criminals that there is a very high chance of being caught and somebody calling 911," Vaughn said. "They will know that they need to go somewhere else."

The new signs, which are designed with the school districts' colors and mascots, are expected to replace the old ones soon.
