The Arkansas Department of Transportation will hold a public meeting this week in De Queen to discuss the widening of U.S. Highway 70/71.

The meeting is from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Memorial Missionary Baptist Church, 802 E. Vandervoort Ave.

The project involves widening U.S. 70/71 from De Queen east to the Cossatot River. The job is expected to be
funded in 2018.

Other Sevier County projects that have been included in the 2016-20 State Transportation Improvement Plan are the Burke Creek and Cossatot Relief bridges and approaches that are now under construction; the overlay of U.S. 70 from the Oklahoma State Line to Arkansas Highway 339; the Saline River Bridge and approaches over U.S. 70 in 2019; the Johns Branch Bridge and approaches over U.S. 71 in 2019; and construction of a new bridge over the Little River on state Highway 41 south of Horatio and at the Sevier-Little River county line, which is already under way.
