Witness: Animal cruelty suspect tossed kitten 'like a baseball'

A Texarkana, Texas, man has been arrested on an animal cruelty charge for allegedly abusing a kitten.

Michael Bryant, 64, is being held in the Bi-State jail. His bond was set at $25,000, said Shawn Vaughn, spokesman for the Texarkana, Texas, Police Department.

Officers were dispatched to a report of a disturbance Saturday afternoon in the 2100 block of Texas Boulevard. A witness told officers that she saw Bryant picking up a small kitten and throwing it "like a baseball for twenty or more feet." She also said that he then struck the kitten several times and threw various items at it.

Officers found the kitten lying on its back under a nearby vehicle. It was bleeding from a cut on its face and was lethargic. Animal Control was contacted to take possession of the kitten, which was treated at a local veterinary clinic.

The kitten is expected to make a full recovery.
