Police arrest stabbing suspect

The Texarkana, Texas, Police Department is investigating a stabbing that occurred Thursday afternoon near the intersection of Milam and Waterman streets. Kechshawn Heath, 23, of Texarkana, Texas, was arrested for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in the 700 block of Lumpkin Street a short time later.

Officers found a 21-year-old man running down the street at that location suffering from a stab wound to his chest area.

According to witnesses, the victim and Heath had been involved in an ongoing dispute for some period of time.

On Wednesday, the situation deteriorated into a physical altercation between the two men, according to police reports. At some point during the fight, Heath allegedly produced a knife and swung at the victim with it. The victim suffered a large cut to his torso.

According to police reports, Heath then fled on foot but was found by officers approximately 30 minutes later. He was taken into custody without incident and taken to the Bi-State Justice Building jail.

The victim was taken to Wadley Regional Medical Center by a LifeNet ambulance. At presstime, he was in surgery to repair the large cut to his rib cage.
