Music is performed Thursday by CHRISTUS Harmonics with the CHRISTUS St. Michael Cardiac/Pulmonary Rehab. CHRISTUS St. Michael Rehabilitation Hospital held its 23rd Annual Rehab Reunion on Thursday. This year's event, "Scooby Doo, Rehab for You," featured music performed by the Cardiac/Pulmonary Rehab participants, a "Scooby Doo" skit and presentations by "inspiration patients." The inspiration patients were chosen to share their stories of how rehabilitation has helped them to overcome adversity so they can live life to the fullest. The first inspiration patient to speak, Andrew "Andy" Legrand III, came to CHRISTUS St. Michael Rehabilitation Hospital after having a procedure for a ruptured aorta. "The therapists here made my day," Legrand said. "I wouldn't be here today without the staff here." After suffering second- and third-degree burns on 32% of his body, Wallace Wooten underwent therapy at CHRISTUS St. Michael Rehabilitation Hospital. "I can't say enough about the therapists," said Wooten. "They made therapy fun!" The final inspiration patient to speak was Jane Mitchell. Mitchell began rehab therapy after she fell and broke her left hip. "As Charles Dickens once wrote, 'It was the best of times, it was the worst of times,'" Mitchell said. "I truly have to thank every person here, the individual mopping the floors, the people serving you in the cafeteria, the nurses and therapists." CHRISTUS St. Michael Rehabilitation Hospital provides a full range of therapeutic treatments to help patients heal, whether from illness, injury or surgery. The program is designed to assist patients improve quality of life by combining treatment and education. It concentrates on daily living activities, such as dressing, eating, walking or increasing wheelchair mobility. Staff members are dedicated to helping each patient regain independence and return home as soon as possible.
