Two die in four-vehicle I-30 crash that halts traffic for hours

Two people died Tuesday evening in a four-vehicle accident on Interstate 30 at the 3 mile marker.

Names and ages of the victims were not available late Tuesday. Both victims were pronounced dead at the scene.

The fatal accident happened about 5 p.m. and involved three 18-wheelers and a van. Investigators at the scene believe the accident was a chain reaction. The accident remains under investigation by Texarkana, Ark., police.

Traffic on I-30 was backed up for miles as three other vehicle accidents also happened within a couple miles of the fatal crash according to Texarkana, Ark., police.

Police were rerouting traffic at the Four States Fairground exit. Traffic was moving slowly again on I-30 about 8 p.m. Tuesday. The scene of the accident was still being cleaned up at 9 p.m. Tuesday.

Texarkana, Ark., Fire Department and Arkansas State Police also responded to the accident.
