Assault suspect arrested

A suspect in a Lafayette County shooting was arrested about 3 a.m. Wednesday and has been charged with first-degree battery and three counts of aggravated assault, according to Lafayette County Sheriff Obie Sims.

Markeith Anderson, 24, of Lewisville, Ark., was arrested on four charges about 3 a.m. in Lafayette County. The arrest warrants were first-degree battery and three counts of aggravated assault.

The victim, Clifton Johnson, no age available, was rushed to CHRISTUS St. Michael Health System in Texarkana, Texas, where he underwent immediate surgery and was listed in stable condition Wednesday afternoon.

About 10:30 p.m. Tuesday, the Lafayette County Sheriff's Department received a call about a shooting in the area of Battle Street in Lewisville. The caller reported shots were fired at a vehicle.

The Lewisville Police Department responded with assistant from the Stamps Police Department and Lafayette County Sheriff's Department.

Officers found a vehicle with four occupants who had been fired upon and one of them was hit.
