Smoothie joint boasts fresh and organic at a great location

"We are a fruit-based business," owner Andy Zhang said.

Open for about a month, Zhang says that Smooth Fruit has had no problem pulling in customers looking for a smoothie.

"Business is great, better than we expected it to be," Zhang said. "Location was a big help. Those who live and work in the Richmond Road area have had to go all the way over to the Arkansas-side for a smoothie. Now, they can come to us."

Zhang also credits good marketing (Smooth Fruit is not far from a few fitness centers), but also credits the Texarkana Chamber of Commerce.

"The chamber has been a big help in getting the word out," Zhang said. "We are also members of the chamber."

Smooth Fruit lives up to its name, making its smoothies out of fresh ingredients.

"We buy organic fruit fresh and do our best to buy local," Zhang said. "It is a bit more expensive but worth it. Customers can taste the difference of freshness in our smoothies. We also buy local produce to support local farmers. Also, there are no dairy ingredients in our smoothies."

Another feature of Smooth Fruit is "build your own smoothie."

"Our customers can customize their smoothie for fruit mix, flavor and supplements," he said. "And we have many ways to order. You can come in the shop and give us your order. You can call. You can order online. You can use carhop and delivery. Our take-out and delivery is also starting this week."

Smooth Fruit has opened just in time for the arrival of warm weather.

"We timed it out that way on purpose," he said.
