Merle Norman Cosmetic Studio, at 2844 Richmond Road, recently changed ownership, but they kept it in the family. The business was purchased by Lynn and Clint Baird from Lynn's mother, Marion Williams, who owned the store for more than 20 years.

"It was my mom's, so it's kind of a family thing," said Lynn Baird, who's been a hairstylist for more than 20 years.

Adding cosmetics to the hair care services she already offers is a good fit for Lynn.

"It's a complete look. You can't fix your hair, color and style it to look pretty and not do anything to the palette that's underneath," she said.

Baird also has a passion for skin care.

"We specialize in skin care. We have products to fight aging and deal with complexion issues like oily skin, dry skin or break-outs," she said. "The chemistry department at Merle Norman in California uses all top quality products. We offer American-made products that are the best and latest."

Appointments are available for makeovers.

"Everybody that works in the store has been professionally trained as a makeup artist," she said. "Our motto is 'Try it on before you leave the store and make sure you like it.'"

Some new services have been added to the store to provide a complete shopping experience.

"I have added in a few hair care products to go with the make-up. We have Kenra Platinum Plus, which is sulfate free. It's good for all hair types and all hair ages.

"We have an anti-aging line that's fabulous. It adds luster back to hair that's losing that shine. I'm also adding some gift ideas, home decor and we'll have jewelry beginning in June," Baird said.

Merle Norman is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays. For more information, call 903-838-5251.
