Texarkana College spelling bee team members, from left, Patti Meyer, Kelli Reed and LaMoya Burks nearly won the 24th annual Corporate Spelling Bee Saturday. After a long battle with the Texarkana Gazette team, TC lost by one letter in spelling the word ichthyophagy, which means "liking to eat fish." The other two teams were from Commercial National Bank, which won the Costume Award, and Texarkana Retired Teachers, which got the Spirit Award. Proceeds from the event benefit the Literacy Council of Bowie and Miller Counties.
