A specially called meeting of the New Boston, Texas, City Council to address the employment status of Police Chief Tony King is scheduled for noon today.

A notice of the meeting posted Tuesday includes three agenda items which deal with the police department. The first of those indicates that the council will meet in a closed executive session "to deliberate the removal and dismissal of the Chief of Police for lack of confidence."

The item following notice of the council's executive session states that the council will return to open session to, "consider and take official action, if any, as a result of the closed session regarding the removal and dismissal of the Chief of Police for lack of confidence."

The agenda also refers to possible action by the council to appoint an interim chief of police in the event the council votes to fire King.

The meeting is scheduled to take place at 12 p.m. Friday at New Boston City Hall at 301 E. N. Front Street in New Boston.
