Scouting preview program scheduled for this evening

The Caddo Area Council Scouts are having a Program Preview from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. tonight at Williams Memorial Methodist Church, 4000 Moores Lane, Texarkana, Texas. The event will take place inside Wesley Hall.

"We bring all of our adult leaders and assistant leaders in and this is our kick-off for them," said Robert Davis, a volunteer with Caddo Area Council. "We're showing them the programs for the remainder of 2018 and the first part of 2019."

Several hundred people are expected to attend the event, where 20 to 25 tables will be set up providing information about Scout programs.

"We've been doing it for several years now. It's when we put out our calendar of events so leaders can put together their calendars for the individual Scout units," Davis said.

This year will be the first full year of family Scouting.

"Family Scouting is where we integrate the girls into the program. We have lots of parents that participate in that," Davis said, noting that girls and boys in the program are separated for the most part. "Girls are integrated into activities but they have separate arrangements."

Other new things on the horizon for the local Scout council include new climbing walls, new things for lion Scouts, which now consist of kindergarten-age children and an increase in the exploring and venturing crews for older boys and girls.

Scout officials will soon begin visiting with local schools to kick off the youth portion of the Scouting year.

"We will be visiting local schools in the next few weeks to meet all the youths," Davis said.
