Starting Aug. 22, Texarkana, Ark., will conduct weekly tests of its storm sirens.

The sirens will be sounded at noon each Wednesday, according to Texarkana, Ark., Fire Department.

The alarms are activated during severe weather, like a tornado. They are not designed to be heard by people indoors, but are intended to alert people outdoors so that they can seek shelter.

The CodeRED system is for people indoors or outdoors. It is an emergency notification system shared by both Texarkanas and Bowie and Miller counties that alerts residents by telephone and/or email of critical community alerts, such as weather emergencies, evacuation notices, bio-terrorism alerts, boil water notices and reports of missing children.
