Chick-fil-A began a large-scale remodeling operation Aug. 17 at 2601 Richmond Road. Once completed, the differences will be obvious inside and out.

"We've already begun the changes to the drive-thru," said Christie Dodson, wife of franchise owner Michael Dodson. "When the drive-thru is done, it will feature dual-ordering lanes merging into a single payer lane."

According to Christie Dodson, the restaurant itself will remain open until Sept. 6. At that point, they will close for six weeks while the interior work begins.

According to a press release, when Michael Dodson reopens the new restaurant, it will showcase the chain's vintage heritage interior design, a dining room with inside seating, additional patio seating and the chain's centerline kitchen design which will nearly double the capacity of the original.

The interior will feature premium finishes, including subway tile and large windows, a large gathering table made from reclaimed wood and a custom light fixture made from recycled Coca-Cola bottles.

"Our workers will remain on the payroll, going through training while we are closed," Christie Dodson said.

Michael Dodson has been a Chick-fil-A operator since 1980 and is a Symbol of Success and Champions Club recipient-the chain's most prestigious honors given to operators. He has operated this Chick-fil-A for fifteen years as of November.

Also, the Schlotzsky's sandwich shop on 129 Arkansas Blvd. has closed as of this past Friday for a complete interior and exterior remodeling. They are aiming for a re-opening Oct. 1. According to a store representative, they will also have some new items on the menu when they reopen, including sliders and tacos. Customers are encouraged to visit the Texas-side location at  652 Richmond Road.
