Arkansas Democrat-Gazette/BENJAMIN KRAIN --08/27/2014-- Matt Maness, left, Christy Maness and Ben Marino, all of Conway, try their luck fishing in Lake Conway near an area of tree stumps in Mayflower on Wednesday morning.

"We signed the contract in late November and it's suppose to close before the end of the year," said Church on the Rock Senior Pastor John Miller.

The move is being made to acquire more room for the church.

"We've been in some kind of expansion plan for about three years," Miller said. The Gander Mountain property came up and that seemed perfect. We'll have twice as much space. We have 32,000 square feet here and that's 66,000."

"Where we are everything is just too small. We don't have enough classrooms for kids. We don't have enough adult classrooms so it's pretty much just allowing the church breathing room in every area," Miller said.

The project is estimated to take between nine and 12 months.

"We just introduced it last weekend with a video and everyone was excited. They clapped and cheered. It felt very positive. Our church is really big on community outreach. We have about 37 ministries and outreaches we do in the local community and this will just give us an opportunity to do more," he said.

Church on the Rock is currently located 1601 Mall Drive. That property will be up for sale once the purchase of Gander Mountain is finalized.

"I hope another church will buy our existing building. It's a great location for a church," Miller said.

Church on the Rock has three weekend services including at 6 p.m. Saturday night and 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. Sunday.

Church on the Rock began as New Life Community Church on Martin Luther King Boulevard in 1976 and moved to its current location in 1985.
