Carl Story wins Fouke council seat by 2 votes

Carl Story won the Fouke, Ark., City Council runoff election by two votes Tuesday for Ward 4, Place 2 on the Fouke City Council.

Story received 18 votes while Kay McCarty had 16 votes.

"It shows every vote counts," said Tonya Bohn, Miller County Election clerk.

"When we were counting the votes in the runoff, I thought we might have a tie. But it did manage to work out," Bohn said.

"It shows every vote counts and I'm glad people came out and voted," she said.

"It was close. I don't know what to say. It does show that every vote counts," Story said.

"I'm grateful for the votes I got and look forward to working with the city (Fouke)," Story said.

McCarty had similar comments about the runoff election.

"It was really close. What can I say?" McCarty said.

The Nov. 6 general election race was close, requiring the runoff. McCarty received 85 votes or 37 percent, and Story had 72 votes or 32 percent of votes cast.

The election will be certified Friday at 10 a.m. in the third floor courtroom of the Miller County Courthouse, said Linda Crawford, Miller County Election coordinator.
